Welcome to the Leitrim Branch of the Irish Pony Club
The Irish Pony Club is a voluntary youth organisation. and is the main equestrian organisation providing training in all disciplines of equestrian activities in Ireland for members up to the age of 23. The Irish Pony Club endeavours to promote and encourage horsemanship and loyalty in a safe and fun atmosphere, for all its members and volunteers.
The objectives of the Irish Pony Club are:
> To encourage young people to ride and to learn to enjoy all kinds of sport connected with horses and riding.
> To provide instruction in riding and horsemanship, and to instil in members the proper care of their animals.
> To promote the highest ideals of sportsmanship, citizenship and loyalty, thereby cultivating strength of character and self-discipline.
The initial idea of forming a Leitrim branch of the Irish Pony Club was first muted in 2003 by Colin Moffatt who, at that time, was the Manager of the Drumcoura Equestrian Centre. His idea was progressed and resulted in the formation of the Leitrim Branch and the election of Mrs Kim O'Riordáin as the branch's first District Commissioner. In the spring of 2004 the first rally was held at Drumcoura Equestrian Centre in Ballinamore. Today the Leitrim Branch continues to develop and flourish and has adopted Drumcoura as its home.
To get the most out of being a member it is preferable to own your own
pony, though this is not a requirement in order to join the Pony Club.
Some of our members don't own their own pony and generally hire one for
each rally from the equestrian centre that is hosting it. We are always
keen to welcome new members and if you are interested in
joining then please don't hesitate to contact
us.
